Sweet Home Chicago
We've officially completed our move to Chicago, and even in the dead of winter this city is absolutely beautiful. Sure we're dreaming about the 75 degree weather on the West Coast, but we're confident that this was the right move for us. We've had our share of bitter winters in Boston, and if anything, we think a couple days of -20 degree wind chills are good for building character. Who needs palm trees and a taste of the easy life all year round? Real men struggle and don't complain... and then party in June.

Why Toshiba Rocks
Manuel Camarena and Charlie Matteo are two great guys at Toshiba. Charlie is our local rep out of Wakefield Mass., and Manuel is the big-gun in charge of Business Development at Toshiba. What more can a small company ask for than support from a bigger and more able company like Toshiba?
What about Flash?
Toshiba is supporting our hard drive development for our upcoming devices. What we love about their storage division is that they provide us with larger quality HDDs for all the multimedia we know you're going to be carrying around. Flash is awesome, but right now it's limited to 4 and 8GB. What makes things worse is that, since we're coming out of the gate as a small company, we're not going to be able to buy huge quantities of memory --- so pricing and availability for Flash is also an issue.
What we intend to do is go with Toshiba's 30 and 60 GB solutions on the HDD side for launch, and then hopefully be able to offer Flash versions of our devices as we can integrate Flash's pricing into our models.
What about the part where HDDs suck?
We've talked to Charlie and Manuel about these issues too. We all know about the horror stories of failed Drives, power inefficiency, seek times, and other factors that make life with a portable HDD maddening. What they've assured us is that Toshiba has a lot of innovative solutions being put into production that will hopefully give us a more reliable and better HDD product for our devices. We'll take the middle ground here and say that we hope the worst issues are behind them, and that their future HDDs will be much better - quality and customer satisfaction have to be the hallmarks of deeda's prodcuts - so with that said:
- Storage size you need
- Toshiba Support
- Quality Assurance
- Belief in the little guy
We just took delivery of our prototype drives...
Toshiba Rocks!
